Belgium King's Day celebration in Kyiv
The Belgian King`s Day of 15 November 2018 was celebrated in Kyiv with a concert of the Blumenfeld Piano Duo at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine followed by a reception offered by H.E. Mr Alex Lenaerts, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Ukraine.
In his welcoming speech he marked the solidarity of Belgium`s ties with Ukraine and stressed the solid and ever growing relations in many fields between the two countries. The national hymns of Belgium and Ukraine were sung by the children’s choir Shchedryk.
The public consisted of Ukrainian officials, members of the diplomatic corps, businesspeople, members of the cultural scene, compatriots and friends of Belgium. They highly appreciated the outstanding performance of the famous Dmytro Sukhovienko from Ukraine and Aaron Wajnberg from Belgium, who by playing together, symbolized the cooperation between both countries.
The event was possible with the generous support of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the many sponsors.
Day of the White Ribbon in the Parliament of Ukraine
H.E. Mr. Alex Lenaerts, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Ukraine, participated in The White Ribbon Day 2018, also known as the International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women, which was held in the Parliament of Ukraine on December 4th.
The Ambassador expressed his strong support for the White Ribbon Day as a symbol of violence eradication.
The White Ribbon logo is an international symbol of the activism against domestic or gender-based violence. The wearing of the white ribbon is a personal pledge to never commit, conceal, or justify violence against women.
Involving men in the process of fighting systemic domestic violence towards women has become a widespread trend throughout the world.
Human Rights Lecture
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Ukraine, Mr. Alex Lenaerts, visited the Institute of International Relations in Kyiv on December 10, 2018.
A meeting dedicated to the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was organized between the Ambassador and students of the Politics and Diplomacy Club “Ambassador”. The importance of this Declaration was discussed.
The meeting was held in a question-answer format in order to give students the opportunity to exchange views in particular on the current human rights situation in Ukraine, on international trends in politics and on the diplomatic relations between Belgium and Ukraine.
